Cute but typical

I am surprised by the other reviews stating that this teething ring had a smell. Maybe there was just a bad batch or two because the one I have never smelled at all. Also, I have had it for a long time now and it has not chipped like one unfortunate reviewers has. It is cute and colorful and catches baby's eye. However, my kids have never really been big fans of teething rings or toys and this one was no exception. My kids liked holding it when it was cold (having put it in the freezer etc.) but once it was no longer cool the excitement of it was gone.
Definitely not a must have

I have bought about 8 teething toys in an attempt to find one my daughter likes. This one didn't make her short list. She will put it in her mouth and spit it back out. Ironically her favorite teething toys have been a wet washcloth and the ribbed rings that you use to clip toys on to car seats strollers etc. None of the designated teething toys have really appealed to her. It is durable though (she does bang it on hard surfaces)and there are no real safety issues to speak of.
Smells

Reviewer: Zomo,
I bought one for my baby and it had an awful chemical smell to it. I wrote to the company and they responded "I want to assure you that the product is non toxic and will not harm or hurt child. The product is made of Polypropylene (a foam used to make plastic). Sometimes as the plastic is being formed the chemical can seek out onto the outer surface causing a horrible smell." They sent me a replacement that also smelled. I threw it out.
Safety Issues?

This is a cute little teether but after a few months of use the paint is beginning to chip off the caterpillar part. I don't know where this toy was made, but considering the recent problems with lead paint on toys I tossed this one just to be safe.

We were given this teething ring as a baby shower gift while I was pregnant with my son. Now that he is teething, we pulled this out of the package for use, and noticed it had a horrible smell. We've washed it and sterilized this several times and it just didn't help. The smell is very much like that of the soap used in a child's bubbles they blow with a wand. Very soapy or plasticy. I don't want my son putting that in his mouth. God knows what is creating that peculiar smell.
